چکیده

This paper provides the general construetion of the optimal strategies in a special class of zero sum games with incomplete information, those in which the players move sequentially. It is shown that at any point of the game tree, a player's optimal behavioral strategy may be derived from a state variable involving two components: the first one keeps track of the information he revealed, the second one keeps track of the (vector) payoff he should secure over his opponent's possible position. This construction gives new insights on earlier results obtained in the context of sequential repeated games. Several examples are discussed in detail.

Pure and Stationary Optimal Strategies in Perfect-Information Stochastic Games

We consider two-players zero-sum perfect information stochastic games with finitely many states and actions and examine the problem of existence of pure stationary optimal strategies. We show that the existence of such strategies for one-player games (Markov decision processes) implies the existence of such strategies for two-player games. The result is general and holds for any payoff mapping.

Algorithms for uniform optimal strategies in two-player zero-sum stochastic games with perfect information

In stochastic games with perfect information, in each state at most one player has more than one action available. We propose two algorithms which find the uniform optimal strategies for zero-sum two-player stochastic games with perfect information. Such strategies are optimal for the long term average criterion as well. We prove the convergence for one algorithm, which presents a higher comple...

Why Chess and Backgammon can be solved in pure positional uniformly optimal strategies

We study existence of (subgame perfect) Nash equilibria (NE) in pure positional strategies in finite positional n-person games with perfect information and terminal payoffs. However, these games may have moves of chance and cycles. Yet, we assume that All Infinite Plays Form One Outcome a∞, in addition to the set of Terminal outcomes VT . This assumption will be called the AIPFOOT condition. Fo...

Markov Decision Processes and Stochastic Games with Total Effective Payoff a

We consider finite Markov decision processes (MDPs) with undiscounted total effective payoff. We show that there exist uniformly optimal pure stationary strategies that can be computed by solving a polynomial number of linear programs. We apply this result to two-player zero-sum stochastic games with perfect information and undiscounted total effective payoff, and derive the existence of a sadd...

Canonical forms of two-person zero-sum limit average payoff stochastic games

We consider two-person zero-sum stochastic games with perfect information and, for each k ∈ Z+, introduce a new payoff function, called the k-total reward. For k = 0 and 1 they are the so called mean and total rewards, respectively. For all k, we prove solvability of the considered games in pure stationary strategies, and show that the uniformly optimal strategies for the discounted mean payoff...
